Excellent win over Hereford

Longton are on the way back up the table. What a excellent team performance again from everyone. The conditions plus 14 men and a key man injured (we do it the hard way) we came away with a well deserved win and denied a Hereford team who new what they were doing any points. An excellent day which started with the best lunch todate and I for one appreciate all the hard work on and off the field which goes to making an enjoyable day.

The 14 men (and at time 13!!) were a credit to the spirit of Longton the defence was great and the final push over try from a scrum was well deserved and wonderful to watch .. thank you boys

What a weird feeling we all had leaving Bromsgrove yesterday after the first half most of us would have taken a loosers bonus point yet in the second half it was a different, transformed magnificent Longton team we were controlled methodical and most of all played with passion it was wonderful to watch.. thank you boys you made an oldish man very happy...the last minute was something we will never forget and I am sure it it will play on the minds of the players but we must put it behind us ...

Well done EVERYONE today what a excellant display from one to fifteen. Forwards on the front foot in the set piece, backs getting quick ball, different moves and wingers involved. This must go down as one of the best all round displays for many a year. Competition for places now seems could be a headache for the coaches. Keep up the excellent work on and off the pitch and here's to what could be a exciting season.

hard luck lads, we had most of the possession but the Luton backs with the angles they were running were the best ive seen this season. a good game to watch apart from the result, and some very poor refereeing. Excellent team spirit, and discipline (one hic up) so keep up the good work.

The score does not relate to the game I saw yesterday a combination of bad luck, silly mistakes and most of all poor refereeing especially in the first have where he did not give one penalty against Malvern but he did improve in the second half alfter he had a master class from his coach at half time!!!! Despit this Longton came out on top it was nice to see us composed and not panic it would have been so easy to lose our heads and the game.. well done lads it was worth the trip to a nice part ...

Well done everone at Leicester,a lovely sunny day and a excellent result against a bigger team. Yes there are area's for the coaches to work on but longton kept the discipline, spirit and some sound defending. After two away games two bonus points and the team with the least points conceded this is much improved on last season. Looking forward to the first home game and the rest of the season.

well done the first team, a cracking win against a big lumpy pack, our pack stuck at it and fitness told in the end there were some areas for improvement but lets not detract from an excellent win. what seemed strange was the quiet home support in comparison to the very vocal longton support. A good start to what appears to be a long hard season keep it up well done lads.....

Just wanted to mention how craig's static pole got the better off him in tonights session, by booming the new head coach. Also craig almost went head over heels when he stood on a ball part way through a demonstration. The second of craig's unfortunate mishaps was only very subtle so thought i would mention it to you all.

Well done to all the players, coaches, etc. who have battled so hard over the last four or five weeks to maintain our place in Midlands 1 and our status as the highest placed club in Staffordshire. Saturday's win showed the grit and determination that this group of players have developed and the result, against a big, hard running Kettering side, was thoroughly deserved.

Next week is the Staffs Cup Final, against Stafford, at Burntwood. Let's get there in numbers and give the team as much support ...

A spirited performance and much better than previous weeks i have attended. At 11-6 we were still in it but errors in the final third cost us in the end when we had them under pressure after their yellow card. Our mainstay in past seasons ,the pack ,just couldnt seem to drive them off the rucks and consequently we had very slow or lost ball. Still we should survive(just) and we should start re building now and that starts on the training pitch.

I watched a rejuvenated Longton side win the Staffs Cup semi-final comfortably , away at Walsall. And before the cynics say ' but it was only Walsall', they are a better side than several I've seen in Mids 1. They were always prepared to run the ball and often had Longton's defence under pressure. However, we held out and scored the tries when the opportunities came. Let's not get carried away with this but it is a big step on the road to recovery. It was good to see players wanting the ball ...

Yes, I do understand that we have some major injury issues; I also realise that we do not have the strength in depth that we have enjoyed in previous seasons and that our league position is worrying to say the least. But does capitulating on the Staffs Cup semi final guarantee us league survival? I dont think so.

It's a bit worrying to see the Firsts so near to the bottom of Midlands 1 after the Malvern game - just 4 points above Bedford Athletic but having played one more game.

Even with the league restructure and only 1 team being relegated, things are getting pretty hairy.

Does anyone have any views on what can be done within the Club to try and avoid relegation?

Maybe relegation could be a good thing given the recent changes at the Club - giving Longton Rugby time to regroup and maybe ...
